Roman Army
Only men were allowed to join the Roman Army. No women were allowed. Every Roman soldier was a Roman citizen. It didn’t matter whatever age they were, if they could walk, move, run and were healthy they were in the army. Only those 10 and up were to fight in a war. The young were only trained till their age had come. They were not not supposed to get married while they were soldiers. Most soldiers in the Roman Empire came from countries outside Italy. There were Roman soldiers from Africa, France, Germany, the Balkans, Spain and the Middle East.
Soldiers had to stay in the army for at least 25 years, then were allowed leave with a pension (Money paid to a retired worker or soldier) or a gift of land to farm.
