They also invented the highways so the Roman Army (legion) could travel. 3. Newspaper The Romans invented the newspaper because they wanted their people to know if the army would go to war and if there were any legal or civil problems. It would be written either on stone or metal and it would be posted somewhere it would be likely to be more seen. 4. Clothing Socks at that time were called soccus and they were worn by both men and women. They also made many different types of neat shoes and hats. 5. Games They invented many different boards games, as well as jacks and hoops. 6. Calender Before Julius Caesar came into power, the months of the year were a huge mess. The priest would make the months shorter if they did not like the person who was ruling Rome. They would do this so the years past by faster and if they did like the ruler they would make the months longer so the ruler would more time to rule. When Julius Caesar came into ruling, he decided to take away that calender and make a new calender that wouldn't change if the priest wanted it to. That calender is the calender we use today. 7. Bound Books A bound book is a book that is forever bounded, ancient Roman books was made out of animal skin. Ancient historians say that Julius Caesar made bound books by putting together papyrus paper, but bound books were not very famous in ancient Rome after a few years. It's said that Christians used the technology more to create the bible. 8. Arches Ancient Romans were the first to properly use the arches for the making of bridges, monuments and other buildings. The arch helps the building be stable, since the building is very heavy, the arch helps holds its weight. |
